student Travel awards

The American Malacological Society (AMS) offers Student Travel Awards to help support student participation at the Annual Meeting. These awards are granted on a competitive basis and are intended to assist students who will be presenting their research at the conference.

Eligibility & Requirements

To be considered for a travel award, applicants must:

  • Be students at or have graduated from a degree-granting program (or high school) within six months immediately prior to the meeting’s registration deadline.
  • Be current AMS members at the time of application. To join, visit: AMS Membership.
  • Be actively presenting a talk or poster at the upcoming AMS Annual Meeting.
  • Submit a complete application by the specified deadline.

Application Materials

Applicants must submit the following materials as a single PDF file:

  1. Abstract of the presentation to be given at the AMS meeting.
  2. A brief statement (no more than one page) outlining the applicant’s research goals and how the planned presentation fits into these goals. This statement must include an estimate of total amount of funds requested and a budget breakdown of those funds. 
  3. Current CV

Submission Process

All application materials should be submitted via email to the Chair of the Student Awards and Education Committee, Chandra Earl (chandra.earl@asu.edu). The file should be named using the applicant’s last name followed by "AMS_Travel" (e.g., Smith_AMS_Travel.pdf).

Award Amount

The number and amount of travel grants awarded each year depend on available funding. Typically $500 to $1,000 is awarded per person and 4 to 8 awards may be given per year.
